Black youth grow when people give, volunteer, partner, share resources, open doors, and strengthen the Village surrounding them.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
BOON is a movement invested in the discipleship of Black youth.
BOON is stewarded by a Christian organization. Our work is rooted in the historic faith confessed by the church across centuries and cultures, the faith of the Apostles' and Nicene creeds — carried, sung, prayed, and lived by the Black church through every generation of struggle and joy.
We believe in God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — the Creator of all things, who made every child in the image of God.
There is no Black child who is an accident, an afterthought, or anything less than fearfully and wonderfully made.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's Son, our Savior — who took on flesh, lived among us, was crucified, rose from the dead, and lives. Jesus came that all might have life, and have it abundantly. Discipleship is learning to live like Jesus from someone around you.
And we believe that promise belongs fully to Black youth.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, present and active in the world — not confined to sanctuaries, services, or those with formal titles.
The Holy Spirit moves in classrooms, on courts and fields, around kitchen tables, and in the sacred, ordinary moments of formation.
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, trustworthy for faith and life — teaching us how to love and honor God, ourselves, and others.
We believe the Church is the body of Christ — bigger than any one congregation, denomination, or tradition.
BOON works across the whole body, honoring the distinct gifts of every part of the Village.
We believe faith and life are not separate. If you influence life, you influence faith.
God is at work in the whole of a young life — identity, character, and capacity — not merely the religious parts.
We believe every person carries agency — the God-given freedom to choose.
Like the Village that raises them, youth are people to be loved, grounded, and equipped to choose wisely.
We believe the Village is God's design. From generation to generation, God has raised children through a community of many parts — each with a role, none meant to be everything.
When the Village is united in purpose, it reflects the body Christ intended.
We believe justice belongs to the gospel. A faith that ignores the barriers Black youth face is not the whole faith.
Loving Black youth well means engaging their real lives, real culture, and real world — with biblical depth, cultural wisdom, and honest attention to what they're up against and can become.
We believe in abundant life — not merely eternal life someday, but fullness of joy beginning now.
This is what God promises Black youth, and it is why BOON exists.
BOON is ecumenical. We partner across Christian traditions and denominations, and we welcome everyone who shares a commitment to the flourishing of Black youth.
